Kanpur: Cracking down on industrial land hoarding, the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has cancelled the allotment of 51 industrial plots after finding that the allottees had failed to construct even basic infrastructure or set up industrial units for nearly seven years. The cancelled plots are located in the Jainpur, Dibiyapur and Kannauj industrial areas.According to UPSIDA officials, the authority had recently issued final warning notices to 396 allottees across six industrial areas of the state, asking them to establish industrial units within the stipulated time or face cancellation of their allotments.Officials said UPSIDA had been receiving complaints for a long time that several entrepreneurs, despite obtaining industrial plots, neither developed the land nor established manufacturing units. Instead, they repeatedly sought extensions to retain possession of the plots.The officials alleged that some allottees were holding on to the land in anticipation of a rise in property prices so they could sell the plots at a profit. Such practices, they said, hampered industrial growth by preventing genuine entrepreneurs from obtaining land for setting up industries.Additional Chief Executive Officer Diksha Jain said the action was taken after a detailed review of the cases at the departmental level. She added that similar action would continue against allottees who fail to utilise industrial land for its intended purpose.
