Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has simplified the process of obtaining electricity connections for loads up to 50kW.Consumers will no longer need an inspection, a no-objection certificate from the Directorate of Electrical Safety or a completion certificate from a licensed electrical contractor. A self-declaration will be sufficient.The relaxation covers domestic, commercial, public and private institutions, private tubewells, temporary connections for house construction, electric vehicle charging, elevators and irrigation connections.Consumers must declare that the installation was carried out by a licensed contractor and complies with the safety norms of the Central Electricity Authority and Bureau of Indian Standards.The exemption will not apply to premises where 100 or more people may gather. Safety certification will remain mandatory for hospitals and nursing homes with 10 or more beds, educational institutions, libraries, banquet halls, hostels, exhibition venues, theatres, museums, creches, play zones and restaurants larger than 150 square metres.Clearance will be required for basement installations at electric vehicle charging facilities. Electrical inspectors may seek certificates for other premises. Consumers will be liable for false declarations, unsafe installations and accidents caused by them.
