KANPUR: A 22-year-old man, Vishal Verma, hanged himself in the Bingawan area under Sen Paschimpara police station area on Saturday after a heated argument with his girlfriend over the phone, police said.Family members told the police that before committing suicide, the youth uploaded an obscene video of his girlfriend on Instagram and then deleted it. They said he also smashed his mobile phone.Police and a forensic team conducted an investigation and sent the body for postmortem.Vishal‘s father, Raju Paswan, a farmer, told the police that on Saturday, he went to get medicine for his wife, Rooprani. He said his younger son, Gopi, was out for work, and his daughters, Roshni, Pooja, and Arushi, went to the fields, while Vishal was alone at home.He said that when Arushi returned home late in the evening, she found Vishal’s body hanging from the ‘dhanni’ (roof beam). His broken mobile phone was lying on the ground.Family members told the police that Vishal was in a love affair with a girl from a neighbouring village. They said that when the family approached the girl’s family with a marriage proposal, they refused.According to the father, on Saturday there was a heated argument between his son and the girl over the phone, after which he smashed his mobile phone and then hanged himself. Sen Paschimpara police station in-charge Pradeep Singh said that the youth committed suicide after a dispute with his girlfriend. “If the family members file a written complaint, investigation and action will be taken.”
