Lucknow: The state police is introducing a new licensing framework for private security training institutes, Inspector General (Law & Order) LR Kumar said on Friday. IG Kumar stated that the initiative is being rolled out under the directions of UP DGP Rajeev Krishna, to standardise and institutionalise the training of private security guards and supervisors across the state.
He noted that until now, private security agencies operating in Uttar Pradesh had to depend on training centres in other states for certifying their guards and supervisors, as authorised training institutes were not available within the state. “This dependence resulted in higher operational costs, additional expenditure of time and manpower, and difficulties in effective monitoring,” Kumar said. “With the establishment of licensed training institutes within Uttar Pradesh, these challenges will be addressed in a systematic manner.” According to the IG, the new licensing process will be conducted under Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) formulated in accordance with norms laid down by the govt of India. The licences to operate private security training institutes will be granted by the Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), Uttar Pradesh, following due scrutiny and compliance with prescribed standards. Detailed guidelines, eligibility criteria and procedural requirements related to licensing are available on the official website of Uttar Pradesh Police, he added. Kumar said the initiative would significantly reduce the financial burden on private security agencies by cutting training-related costs and eliminating inter-state dependency. It is also expected to generate employment opportunities, particularly in regions where training institutes will be established.
