Nagpur: A 44-year-old tea kiosk owner allegedly stabbed a truck driver to death with a milk packet cutter over a petty Rs10 payment dispute at around 4pm on Sunday. The murder was committed in the vicinity of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana site on Uppalwadi Road, barely two hours after the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony in the presence of VVIPs.According to police, the deceased, identified as Vinod Yadav, visited the tea kiosk run by accused Kailash Ganvir, a resident of Ashok Samrat Nagar, twice earlier in the day. He consumed tea worth Rs5 each time but refused to pay the amount.When Ganvir demanded the payment, Yadav allegedly argued, complaining about the lack of tobacco and other items at the kiosk. The verbal spat soon escalated. Eyewitnesses told police that Yadav slapped Ganvir in front of his wife, enraging the tea kiosk owner.Ganvir, who earlier drove an autorickshaw for a living, reportedly picked up a milk packet cutter from his shop while Yadav tried to run away. Ganvir chased Yadav, pinned him down, and stabbed him in the neck region. Yadav bled profusely and collapsed on the spot.Alert police personnel from Kapil Nagar police station, who were on patrol duty in the vicinity, immediately rushed to the spot. They picked up Yadav and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Following the murder, police swiftly arrested Ganvir, who has no past criminal record. Senior police officials visited the crime spot. The body has been sent for postmortem at Mayo Hospital. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and recording statements of eyewitnesses, including labourers, to reconstruct the sequence of events.
