Varanasi: Portion of an under-construction railway overbridge on the Howrah-Gaya rail route near Banauli Khurd village in Chandauli district collapsed on Wednesday night while slab was being cast between two pillars and two labourers suffered injuries.Chandauli district magistrate Chandra Mohan Garg and S P Aditya Langhe on Thursday reached Banauli Khurd and following the inspection, Garg said the two labourers injured were under treatment in hospital. “A committee has been formed to ascertain what caused the collapse and based on investigation report of the committee, future course of action will be decided,” said the DM. UP Bridge Corporation is constructing the ROB in Banauli Khurd village under Sadar tehsil area. As the entire slab crumbled and fell to the ground, there was panic and hundreds of villagers reached the spot. Alleging large-scale irregularities in the ROB construction, villagers questioned why no engineer or senior official of the agency or govt department concerned was present to monitor the construction work and demanded proper check of the quality of construction material being used.
