Varanasi: Old, dilapidated police stations in the city would soon be replaced with modern administraive structures, providing better working environment to the police personnel while making it more convenient for general public to approach police and file complaints.Police commissioner Mohit Agrawal said administrative blocks of Shivpur, Phoolpur, Lalpur Pandeypur, Mirzamurad, Rajatalab and Badagaon police stations are being constructed as ground-plus-2-storey buildings. Several arrangements are being made in these modern buildings, keeping in mind needs and facilities of police personnel. Visitor rooms and complaint rooms are also being built for visitors so that public grievances are heard in an orderly manner and resolved. Women’s safety and facilities have been taken into consideration. The cost of constructing all six police stations is over Rs 29 crore (Rs 29,22,77,000). There will be rooms fpr SHO, sub-inspectors, head constables, besides barracks for jawans, staff room, visitor room, complaint room, women’s rest room, women’s lock-up, men’s lock-up, malkhana, computer server room, Dial 112 room, meeting hall, kitchen, dining hall, store room, recreation room and interrogation room. Each police station is being constructed on an area of 2,582.77 square metres and they will be completed by Aug-Sep. For strong law and order, it is essential police force is empowered and well-facilitated, hence police stations are being continuously modernised and police infrastructure is being strengthened across the state.Agrawal said police personnel are on duty 24 hours and often have to work without break for several hours at a stretch. In such a situation, better infrastructure and comfortable facilities will enhance both their working capacity and morale. With the construction of modern buildings, police personnel will not only get better working environment, they will get facilities for rest too.
