Gandhinagar: The Congress party on Friday named Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan as its candidate for the Umreth assembly byelection. Sixty-two-year-old Chauhan is coordinator (central zone) in the GPCC and has held several posts in the state organization. He was three-time president of the Umreth taluka panchayat and was an office-bearer of cooperative societies in Anand district, a party statement said. The byelection, necessitated because of the demise of MLA Govind Parmar, will be held on April 23.
