Jhansi: In a joint operation, the district administration and the health department raided a premises on Saturday here on Saturday and seized a portable ultrasound machine allegedly being used without valid authorisation, probably for an illegal sex determination test. Two accused managed to abscond from the place.A joint team led by city magistrate Pramod Jha conducted the raid following a tip-off in a premises near Karguwanji Temple, opposite Jhansi medical college.According to officials, the health department received information that a portable ultrasound machine was being used illegally. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of the chief medical officer Dr Shishir Puri, following which legal proceedings were initiated.When the team reached the site, two persons were found inside the room with the portable ultrasound machine switched on. However, both allegedly fled the premises after noticing the officials. Their escape was captured on video by one of the doctors in the raiding team, the officials said.The joint team subsequently sealed the equipment and seized the portable ultrasound machine, two mobile phones and a CCTV camera DVR.During the investigation, the officials found that the machine had been kept in a room located at House No. 122 near Karguwanji Temple belonging to one Saurabh Kumar Jain, of Bada Bazaar.During interrogation he revealed that the room had been rented out to a person identified as Prinki, who is also absconding.The city magistrate said that the premises have been sealed while the seized items are being scrutinised thoroughly to gather details about probable illegal sex determination tests. “We are in a process of lodging an FIR against the accused under related sections “.
