New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a unified online portal for granting 2(f) and 12B recognition to higher education institutions as part of efforts to make regulatory processes more transparent, digital and time-bound.
The move follows stakeholder feedback and adds to a series of online platforms already developed by the UGC for granting autonomous status to colleges, deemed-to-be university status, and approvals for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes.
The government also highlighted broader reforms proposed under the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, which seeks to introduce a technology-driven, single-window regulatory system for higher education institutions based on public self-disclosure.
According to the Ministry of Education, the proposed framework aims to simplify regulatory processes, reduce discretion and improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in higher education governance.
The Bill has been referred to a Joint Committee of both Houses of Parliament for examination.
Minister of State for Education Dr Sukanta Majumdar shared the information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
