Ahmedabad: Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two state tax officials on Friday for allegedly accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe to unfreeze a businessman’s bank accounts.The accused have been identified as Kamlesh Kumar Thakor, state tax officer (Class II) and Aziz Mansuri, state tax inspector (Class III), both posted at the office of the assistant commissioner of state tax, Division-6, in Lal Darwaza.ACB officers said the complainant runs a business selling and servicing air compressors and regularly files quarterly GST returns. He could not file the GST return or pay the tax for the April-June 2026 quarter due to financial difficulties. This led to the tax department freezing the company’s and the businessman’s savings accounts.The complainant approached the tax office to have the accounts unfrozen. Officers allege that Mansuri discussed the matter with Thakor, and the two demanded Rs 25,000 to get the accounts unfrozen. He approached ACB. A team laid a trap at the assistant commissioner of state tax’s office on Friday. Both officials allegedly accepted Rs 25,000 from the complainant and were caught. The bribe amount was recovered.
