Dharmapuri: Two 18-year-old students were killed on the spot after a motorcycle they were riding collided head-on with a milk van near Poiyapatty in Dharmapuri district, on Sunday evening.The deceased have been identified as Iniyan, son of Ramachandran, and Abinath, son of Murugan, both residents of Poiyapatty village. The accident took place around 6.15pm when they were travelling towards Hanumanthatheertham on the Salem-Harur highway.“The van, which was coming from the opposite direction, suddenly collided with the two-wheeler. The impact was severe and both teenagers sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot, said a police officer from Harur station. He added that the van driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene soon after the incident.On being alerted, Harur police reached the scene and began investigations. They recovered the bodies and sent it to the Harur Government Hospital for postmortem. Meanwhile, subsequent investigation revealed that the van involved in the accident was owned by Anandan, from Andiyur village.Police have registered a case and efforts are on to trace the driver involved in the hit-and-run.
