Coimbatore: LPG cylinders in two neighbouring houses exploded at Yamuna Nagar in Thoppampatti Pirivu near Thudiyalur on Friday night. The incident took place in a line of houses that share the same roof and are connected by wooden rafters and tiles. Police said Nagaraj was cooking in his rented house around 9.30pm on Friday, when he suddenly noticed fire in the gas hose. After his efforts to douse the flames were in vain, he alerted his neighbours. While the occupants of two nearby houses, quickly evacuated with their LPG cylinders and belongings, the occupants of one home were away and had locked their house.Meanwhile, the fire spread to the locked house and both LPG cylinders exploded subsequently, sending thick smoke into the air and creating panic in the locality.Fire personnel from Thudiyalur and Periyanaickenpalayam were alerted, and the fire was doused after more than half an hour of firefighting. No casualties were reported.
