COIMBATORE: Two 11-year-old students drowned while fishing in the Kannampalayam lake near Sulur in Coimbatore district on Thursday.The deceased were identified as R Sujith Kumar and Y Pradosh, both from TVK Nagar in Kannampalayam near Sulur. They were studying Class VI at a private school in Sulur.With school timings shifted to the afternoon due to the ongoing public examinations, the boys left their homes around 9am on Thursday, saying they were going out to play. However, they did not return even by 1pm, prompting their parents to search for them.Meanwhile, locals found the bodies of two young boys floating in the Kannampalayam lake and alerted Sulur police. Fire and rescue services personnel were deployed to retrieve the bodies. Preliminary verification confirmed that the bodies were those of the missing boys, and it was ascertained that they had drowned in the lake.The bodies were recovered and sent to ESI Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered, and further investigation is on.
