Patna police swiftly rescued a businessman within four hours of his abduction, arresting five individuals including two private university students. The victim, Sunny Kumar, was held for a Rs30 lakh ransom. Authorities recovered a car, motorcycle, and fake number plates. The accused, known to the victim, have been jailed pending further investigation.

Patna: Two students of a private university were among the five persons arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 35-year-old businessman for ransom in Danapur police station area. Patna police rescued the victim within four hours of the complaint being lodged, officials said on Tuesday.On Monday, a person approached Danapur police station and reported that his son, Sunny Kumar (35), a businessman, was abducted by some persons who were demanding a ransom of Rs30 lakh for his safe release.Taking seriousness of the matter, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma directed formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the city superintendent of police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh.Shivam Dhakad, SDPO-I of Danapur, said the team immediately launched technical surveillance and scientific investigation, and safely rescued abducted Sunny within just four hours of the complaint being lodged. “Five accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar, Har Ranjan and Vishal Kumar—all residents of Phulwarisharif; Himanshu Singh of Gunaur police station area in Haryana; and Prateek Vajpayee, a resident of Lodi Road police station area in New Delhi,” he said.Himanshu and Prateek are students of a private university. The police recovered a car, a motorcycle, three cellphones, and two fake number plates. All five accused were produced before the competent court and forwarded to jail. Further legal action is underway.SHO, Danapur police station, Prashant Kumar Bhardwaj, said the accused are acquaintances of the victim, and they knew that Sunny’s father retired from the building construction department, govt of Bihar. “Sunny is also a businessman. The police are further investigating the matter,” he said.
