Sasaram: Three people, including a youth and two women, were allegedly assaulted by villagers on suspicion of child theft in separate incidents in Rohtas and Kaimur districts in the past 12 hours.Police intervened in both the cases and rescued the victims.In Tilothu block of Rohtas district, a youth was beaten up by local residents on Tuesday after he was suspected of being involved in child lifting. The incident occurred in a marketplace where a mob attacked him. Despite his repeated pleas that he was a trader, the crowd refused to listen and continued to assault him.Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and rescued the injured youth. He was later taken to a nearby primary health centre (PHC) for treatment. Eyewitnesses said had the police not arrived in time, the mob might have lynched him.Tilothu SHO Divakar stated that an FIR would be lodged against those involved in the assault.In a similar incident in Kaimur district, two women were allegedly held hostage and assaulted by villagers at Sirbit village under Chainpur police station area. The incident took place after the women got off an autorickshaw with a child, triggering suspicion among locals.Police reached the village and rescued the women. In the presence of villagers, officers verified their identities and confirmed details about the child. After preliminary inquiry, the women were released.Chainpur SHO Vijay Prasad confirmed the incident.
