Nagpur: The Child Protection Unit and Pachpaoli police rescued two minors who were allegedly kept illegally in a locality in Mehdibagh. Police hinted at it being a case of illegal adoption. The action followed a tip-off received through the Child Helpline 1098 which flagged concerns over possible child trafficking. A joint team from the District Child Protection Unit and Pachpaoli police station reached the spot for verification.During inspection, authorities found the woman along with a five-year-old girl. The woman said that the girl was brought from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Another woman was found with a nine-year-old boy. She claimed her husband received the boy from one of his friends.Neither woman was able to produce any legitimate documents such as adoption papers or guardianship certificate. The absence of legal documents led officials to treat the matter as a potential case of illegal custody or child trafficking.Following the rescue, both children were shifted to a children’s home. An FIR was filed at Pachpaoli police station. The district administration renewed its appeal to the public to inform any kind of child exploitation, child labour, suspicious movement of minors or illegal adoption activities to the Child Helpline 1098.
