Prayagraj: Two minor girls drowned while three others were rescued by swimmers at the Karnavati river ghat under the limits of Manda police station in the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj district on Monday.According to police, the incident took place around 11 am when a group of five to seven girls from the Survandalpur area had gone to the Karnavati river to immerse puja items.After performing the rituals and taking a bath, five of them, including Ankita (13), Shubhi (14), Rabi, Archita and Shweta, were swept away by the river’s strong current.Hearing the screams of the other girls, locals and swimmers present on the riverbank jumped into the swollen river and managed to rescue Rabi, Archita and Shweta. Meanwhile, Ankita and Shubhi were feared to have been swept away by the strong current.Upon being alerted, a joint team of Manda police and firefighters rushed to the spot and launched an operation to search for the missing girls.
