Panaji: Two govt industrial training institutes (ITIs) in Goa will offer the fire technology and industrial safety management trade under a dual-training framework that combines classroom instruction with structured exposure to professional fire service operations. This dual system of training (DST) will be implemented through the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed with the directorate of fire and emergency services (DFES).Govt ITI, Mapusa, will run the trade under the DST pattern, while Cacora ITI will implement it through on-the-job training. This will allow trainees to combine institute-based learning with hands-on exposure alongside professional fire service personnel.Chief minister Pramod Sawant said such industry-linked training programmes would help produce more skilled and professionally trained fire service personnel. He added that govt may consider making a recognised ITI certificate in fire technology and industrial safety management one of the essential qualifications for recruitment into fire service roles.Officials said the arrangement is intended to give trainees direct exposure to professional fire service operations, equipping them with the technical knowledge, discipline and operational competencies the fire safety and emergency response sector requires.DFES said the collaboration marked the “beginning of a new chapter” in fire technology education in the state and described it as a step toward building a pipeline of technically qualified, industry-ready manpower in fire and safety services.This govt initiative aims to strengthen vocational education, create employment opportunities for youth, and enhance the state’s disaster preparedness and emergency response infrastructure. DFES said it will support similar collaborative initiatives between technical education institutions and emergency service departments in the future.The timeline for the commencement of the first training batches under either MoU has not yet been announced.
