Calangute sarpanch said the panchayat’s sanitary inspector will submit a report of the inspection

Calangute: Officials of Calangute panchayat on Wednesday carried out a site inspection after a local businessman alleged that road-digging in front of the panchayat ghar, as part of a beautification project, was being used to create channels to divert sewage into public drains from a neighbouring hotel.Vishwesh Kakule said sewage flowing through the drains was entering a nullah near his house. He said he questioned workers at the site and found the hotel’s sewage outlet allegedly connected to the drainage line being laid during the works. The beautification project is being executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), whose chairperson is local MLA Michael Lobo.Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said the panchayat’s sanitary inspector will submit a report, following which action will be initiated against the hotel if violations are found. Sequeira added that the suspected sewage channels have been blocked.Officials from the Candolim primary health centre, including the sanitary inspector, were present for the inspection.
