T’puram: Venjaramoodu police arrested two men, including a history-sheeter, for allegedly snatching a 1.5-sovereign gold chain from a 56-year-old woman near Vamanapuram.The arrested are Sajan (29) of Neyyattinkara, and Sinu (25) of Karett. Police said Sajan is accused in several criminal cases, including an attempt-to-murder case, and had recently been released after serving detention under the Kaapa.The incident occurred around 10.40am on Wednesday when Prashobhana, a resident of Mudakkal, had reached Anakudy post office in Vamanapuram to withdraw money. As she was walking near the post office, the accused, who arrived on a motorcycle, allegedly snatched her gold chain and fled the scene.Police said the two planned the crime after becoming acquainted in jail. They allegedly targeted women walking alone on interior roads. Police also found that the duo had attempted a similar chain-snatching within the limits of Aruvikkara police station earlier the same day.A special investigation team led by Attingal DSP Santosh Kumar and Venjaramoodu inspector Prajeesh T D was formed on the instructions of rural SP Prashanth. Police traced the accused by analysing CCTV footage, mobile phone call records and the profiles of habitual offenders. The accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
