Gurgaon: Two key master roads in new sectors along Dwarka Expressway are set for an upgrade.GMDA is planning works worth nearly Rs 20 crore to strengthen stretches and improve connectivity.The first project covers the master road in sectors 110A and 111, where the main carriageway will be strengthened and the existing service road will also be upgraded. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 9.6 crore and is expected to be completed within nine months.Separately, GMDA will construct a service road along the master road in sectors 106 and 109. The master road was redeveloped by the authority last year, but a service road was not taken up at the time. The 1.8 km service-road project is estimated to cost around Rs 9.7 crore and is expected to take one year to complete.In the first case, the nearly 820-metre stretch connects Dwarka Expressway with Chauma Road and serves as a key link for several high-rise residential condominiums and the HSVP sector in the area. With traffic volumes increasing in the area, residents have been seeking repairs and resurfacing of the road for several years.Residents said the road has deteriorated under the pressure of regular traffic, including heavy vehicles.Vikas Rana, a resident of Diplomatic Puri, said, “This road is in urgent need of upgradation. We have been living here since 2015 but have not seen any civic agency carry out road carpeting here. This is the main link to Dwarka Expressway, so there is heavy traffic throughout the day, including movement of big dumpers and trolleys. Every road has a certain capacity and lifespan, and this road has already outlived both. Residents have at times had to spend from their own pockets to fill potholes and make the road motorable. Because of the broken patches, dust pollution is also aggravating in the area.”As for the project in sectors 106 and 109, the authority has decided to take up the service road following the increase in traffic as residential and commercial development picks up in the vicinity. The facility is expected to provide an additional route for local traffic and ease pressure on the main carriageway.A GMDA official said that the authority has invited bids for the two roads and work will be taken up after the agency is finalised.“The road in sectors 110A and 111 was originally constructed by HSVP and was taken over by the GMDA in 2018. However, the road was maintained through repair. We have now decided to strengthen the main carriageway and upgrade the service road, construct a central verge and install crash barriers to improve safety and traffic movement,” he said.The official said the nearly 820-metre stretch would also be provided with surface drains and other road safety infrastructure.On the service road planned along the master road in sectors 106 and 109, the official said GMDA would also make provisions for street lighting and drainage.“The service road will provide an additional route for local traffic and improve connectivity in these sectors. We will lay RCC pipes to ensure proper connectivity to drainage. Footpath will also be provided, along with road furniture, thermoplastic markings and proper road signage. Once the work is completed, people living and commuting in the area will have better connectivity and smoother movement,” he said.
