Bettiah: Two deer were found dead in the Semrahwa fields near Bhapsa village in West Champaran district on Saturday evening, raising suspicion that a leopard may have killed them.Villagers spotted the carcasses and informed the forest department. A team of forest officials reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. During a detailed search on Sunday morning, officials found pugmarks and other signs indicating leopard activity in the area.Bagaha forest range officer Shri Malakar said the department had found several indications of leopard movement around the fields. Officials from the ranger’s office, along with tiger trackers, are tracing the pugmarks to track the animal’s movements and ascertain its possible location. Continuous surveillance is being maintained in the area.“People have been advised to avoid going towards the fields, especially at night,” Malakar said.Officials have alerted villagers and advised them to remain cautious while travelling towards agricultural fields and the Semrahwa area, particularly after dusk. Further action would be taken after the leopard’s exact location is established.
