Chennai: TVK president Vijay has approached Election Commission seeking transfer of key police and senior administrative officers in Tamil Nadu, alleging that their continued presence is affecting the fairness of ongoing assembly election process.Vijay met chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik at the state secretariat and submitted a representation, seeking clearance for the party’s campaign events and seeking urgent intervention of ECI to ensure a level playing field. The representation requests the EC to call for an urgent report from the state CEO, appoint special observers, and ensure that a uniform and transparent system is followed in granting permissions for rallies and public meetings. In his plea, Vijay alleged that certain officials are acting under pressure and coordinating in a manner that favours the ruling party. The representation identifies key positions including the DGP, Chennai Police Commissioner, ADGP (Law and Order), intelligence and armed police heads, along with senior IAS officers such as chief secretary, home secretary and finance secretary, stating that these roles directly influence law and order, permissions and deployment decisions during elections. To substantiate its claims, the party cited multiple instances affecting its campaign, including denial of permission for Vijay’s rally in Perambur, alleged obstruction of venues through digging and barricading, selective enforcement of procedural rules, and attempts to shut down a party office in Villivakkam.
