CHENNAI: All clearances have been granted for TVK president Vijay’s first election rally in Chennai at Perambur on March 30. Vijay is expected to file his nomination from the constituency around noon and begin his campaign with a public meeting at 2 pm. The party has also secured approval to hold its candidates’ introduction event in the city on Sunday. The approvals came hours after Vijay approached the Election Commission, alleging that officials were acting in favour of DMK and denying permission for TVK’s campaign events without valid reasons. TVK chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan, who accompanied Vijay to the secretariat to submit the complaint, said the party’s candidate announcement event scheduled for March 27 had to be cancelled despite applying through the online system 48 hours in advance. ‘Pits dug around Perambur venue’Sengottaiyan said permission for the Perambur rally was abruptly withdrawn. “Pits were dug around the venue to prevent us from conducting the event and even barricades were put up,” he said. “Other political party leaders are receiving full cooperation from the administration. But even a single venue we identified is being denied,” he said. Later on Saturday evening, the Perambur returning officer granted permission for Vijay’s rally on 60 Feet Road on Monday. “After filing nomination at RO office in Ambedkar College, he is campaigning at 60 Feet Road, and then at Moolakadai, Anna Nagar and Villivakkam,” said a senior TVK functionary. Vijay will announce candidates for all 234 assembly constituencies, at a private hotel in Nungambakkam.
