Chennai: A candidate of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), R Prakasam, contesting from the Poonamallee constituency was booked on Tuesday on charges of sexually harassing a woman functionary. The incident is said to have taken place last year on June 8 during a wedding reception held in Tiruvallur,attended by party functionaries.The woman, also a party functionary, attended the function along with her husband. She alleged that during the event, Prakasam approached her and behaved inappropriately, subjecting her to sexual harassment and making indecent advances.After she informed her husband, he confronted Prakasam at his office. Despite initially raising a complaint with the party leadership, no action was taken. Her husband then filed a formal complaint at Tiruvallur district superintendent of police’s office.Police registered a case against Prakasam under multiple sections. Meanwhile, Prakasam’s wife, Suruna, filed a counter-complaint with the district superintendent of police, alleging that the accusations were levelled on account of internal party disputes and denial of a position.
