Turkish woman killed after speeding Audi hits her while crossing road in Punjab; thrown 14 feet in air | Chandigarh News

MOHALI: A Turkish woman was killed after being hit by an allegedly speeding Audi car on Zirakpur’s busy VIP Road late on Monday night. The driver allegedly fled from the scene after the accident. Police are scanning CCTV camera footage to identify the vehicle and trace the accused.The victim was identified as Mawluda, a Turkish national, who died on the spot after being struck by the high-speed car near a private hospital on VIP Road around midnight.According to police and eyewitnesses, Mawluda was walking with her friend Abhishek, alias Abhi, after visiting a patient at the hospital when the black Audi car allegedly rammed into them while they were crossing the road.The impact of the collision was severe. Mawluda was reportedly thrown nearly 12 to 14 feet into the air before landing on the other side of the road. She sustained critical injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.Abhishek told the police that Mawluda accompanied him to the hospital to check on his pregnant wife. As they stepped onto the main road outside the hospital, the speeding car hit them. Abhishek sustained minor injuries in the incident.Bystanders immediately informed the police control room following the accident. However, locals alleged that the police reached the spot nearly one hour after the alert.Police have shifted the body to the civil hospital mortuary. Investigating officer, ASI Raj Kumar said Mawluda’s sister is travelling from Turkey to India. The postmortem and further legal action will be carried out after her arrival.Police teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the vehicle and arrest the driver.25-yr-old hit by tractor, killedA 25-year-old BTech graduate died after being hit by a tractor in the IT City police station area. The deceased has been identified as Harsahib Singh, a resident of Phase 11, Mohali. According to a complaint filed by his mother, Bhupinder Kaur, Harsahib left home around 7pm on March 7 to meet friends.Around 2:30am, the family received a call informing them that he met with an accident and was taken to Sohana Hospital. When the family reached the hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.According to the complaint, the accident occurred near a petrol pump when Harsahib stepped out of a car to use the restroom across the road. As he was returning to get into the vehicle, a speeding tractor allegedly hit him.Police booked tractor driver Gurdaman Singh, a resident of Chilla village, for rash and negligent driving. Two other persons — Harman Singh and Tarun Sharma —were also riding on the tractor at the time of the incident. A case was registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Youth injured in hit-and-run near Airport ChowkIn a separate incident, a scooter rider was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding car near Airport Chowk.According to the complaint filed by Polus Masih, a resident of Adarsh Colony in Balongi, his cousin Joel Masih was returning from work on his Activa scooter late at night when a speeding car coming from the direction of Airport Chowk suddenly took a right turn and collided with the scooter.Joel Masih sustained serious injuries. The accused initially remained at the spot for some time but later fled with the vehicle. The injured youth was first taken to the civil hospital in Mohali and later referred to Max Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
