Srinagar, Feb 17: Srinagar is preparing for a vibrant spring as the Tulip Garden is set to showcase 1.8 million blooms this year, while Badamwari is also gearing up for its seasonal opening.
Authorities said large-scale preparations are underway, but clarified that no formal opening date has been announced yet for the Tulip Garden.
A senior floriculture official told Rising Kashmir that the garden usually opens after March 20, but the final decision depends entirely on temperature and bloom conditions. A designated committee monitors the weather and inspects the flowering before taking the final call.
Officials have refuted any reports suggesting that an opening date has already been declared, stating that no such announcement has been made so far.
Last year, the Tulip Garden opened on March 25, while in the previous year it opened on March 24. Authorities said the timeline often falls around that period, yet even a slight temperature variation can advance or delay blooming by a few days. The bloom must reach its peak before the gates are opened to visitors.
This year, 1.8 million tulip bulbs have been planted, including several new varieties. Officials said fresh garden elements have been introduced to enhance the visitor experience. Surprise attractions are also being planned.
The department has focused on improving facilities, including better shaded areas and upgraded public amenities to handle heavy footfall. Visitors will also get to see local flowers, Kashmir’s native flora, and spaces dedicated to art and craft displays.
Meanwhile, Badamwari is likely to open earlier than the Tulip Garden. Incharge Badamwari Mubashir Wani told Rising Kashmir the almond garden is expected to open in the first week of March, subject to weather conditions. “If temperatures rise in the coming days, blooming may begin early. If cold conditions persist, the opening could be delayed by about a week,” Wani said.
Authorities will review the bloom status in the last week of February before announcing a final date for Badamwari. Wani said several improvements have been carried out at the garden this season. Fountains have been restored, viewpoints upgraded, and 11 themed gardens introduced to enrich the landscape. More additions are under discussion and will be finalised soon.
Officials confirmed that ticket rates for both gardens will remain unchanged as per government-approved norms.
With enhanced facilities, new floral varieties, and careful monitoring of bloom conditions, Srinagar’s iconic spring gardens are set to offer a colourful and welcoming experience for visitors once the flowers are in full bloom.
