Gurgaon: Seven passengers were injured in a pile-up involving a truck and a bus on a national highway in Faridabad on Saturday. The accident led to a traffic jam on the highway, which was cleared after the vehicles were removed from the carriageway, police said.Around 10pm, the truck broke through a central divider and crashed head-on into the Haryana Roadways bus on the Delhi-Mathura NH. The incident took place near the YMCA flyover when the bus was on its way to Delhi from Ballabgarh. The impact left the front portion of the bus badly mangled, with passengers seated in the front bearing the brunt of the collision. With the help of a crane, police cleared the damaged vehicles from the road. The injured passengers were pulled out of the bus and taken to nearby hospitals by locals and police.Officials said those injured were later sent to Delhi in another bus. The truck driver also sustained injuries and was taken into custody after being given first aid.“The passengers and driver sustained minor injuries, no medico legal report was received from the hospital and neither a complaint was given to the police. The injured were given treatment and discharged. We are checking the CCTV footage and are verifying if the truck driver was drunk or had dozed off, leading to the accident,” an officer said.Eyewitnesses said the truck was moving at high speed when it veered towards the divider, broke through it and entered the opposite carriageway before slamming into the oncoming bus. Some passengers alleged that the truck driver had consumed alcohol, but police said this would be confirmed only after a medical examination. Cops are also examining whether a mechanical fault could have led to the accident.
