Agartala: Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said the state govt will implement Uniform Civil Code (UCC) when directed by Union govt, noting potential exemptions for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) region.In a media briefing, Saha indicated that the state intends to enact UCC following a formal decision. Responding to questions about Union home minister Amit Shah’s recent statements regarding UCC’s implementation in BJP-run states, Saha confirmed Tripura will follow any instructions from Centre.Discussions on UCC hold particular significance in Tripura, given the presence of tribal areas where customs shape marriage and inheritance practices. When asked if UCC might influence these traditional laws, Saha suggested there could be exemptions for tribal regions.Saha’s remarks on UCC came after he announced Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, a month-long initiative occurring across Tripura from Sept 17 to Oct 17 to mark 25 years of public service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The chief minister explained that this campaign will prioritise the principles of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan, which stand for service, good governance and poverty alleviation. The core message is “Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva,” emphasising the need for govt welfare programmes to benefit all citizens.Saha highlighted that the public service journey being commemorated began on Oct 7, 2001, when Narendra Modi first took office as chief minister of Gujarat. He acknowledged the past 25 years of public service and the people’s mandate in India’s diverse democracy as a significant chapter in the country’s democratic story.The campaign will include various activities like Ashirwad Ka Diya, Mere Sapno Ka Bharat Chitra Seva, Namo Seva Ankahi Kahaniyan, Angan Milan Seva, Seva Ki Kahani, Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra, Seva Meri Yogdan, Seva Setu Abhiyan, Seva Ke Rang Rashtra Ke Sang, Seva First Innovation Challenge, Sushasan Samvad and Vadnagar-Varanasi Seva Yatra.Finance minister Pranajit Singha Roy will lead the oversight of the campaign in Tripura. Different districts will have guardian ministers, and MLAs along with other elected officials will help implement the initiatives, Saha stated.A committee consisting of govt secretaries and district magistrates will create the action plan and manage its execution. Information and cultural affairs department will serve as the main department.A significant part of the plan will be Seva Setu Abhiyan, which will include 85 large camps set up from Sept 29 to Oct 17. These camps will help people access welfare programmes from both Union and state govts. They will occur at 58 block headquarters, 20 urban locations and panchayats.
