Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday verbally directed CID to ensure speedy completion of probe in the encounter of Prabhas Mondal, the prime accused in Baruipur rape and murder of a minor.The division bench of Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Reetobroto Kumar Mitra were hearing multiple PILs filed regarding the alleged encounter. The bench told Additional Advocate General (AAG) Rajdeep Mazumder to complete the probe urgently.Calling the incident unfortunate, the division bench hoped that the probe would be expedited. The state on Tuesday submitted a report in a sealed envelope stating that the facts disclosed were highly confidential in nature.The division bench of Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee had earlier directed for submission of a detailed affidavit including the case number and other details. The court directed for preservation of all documents relating to the alleged encounter.In one of the PILs, a judicial inquiry was sought into the incident. It was argued that the killing of accused in an encounter while in custody amounts to extrajudicial killing, depriving the main accused of his fundamental right.
