Agartala: The road blockade imposed by former extremists seeking a rehabilitation package was called off on Saturday night following an assurance from the state govt that it will look into their demands.Earlier in the day, tension prevailed at Baramura Hills in Tripura on Saturday, the second day of a road blockade.The blockade left a large number of vehicles stranded, affecting patients, travellers and people heading to examination centres.The situation intensified on Saturday after an ambulance carrying a patient was allegedly stopped and confronted during the blockade, with supporters led by former NLFT leader Prasenjit Debbarma. The ongoing 72-hour protest by former NLFT and ATTF members is centred on an 11-point list of demands, which includes rehabilitation and addition of about 1,200 more people as ‘returnees’.The blockade has triggered a political debate, with opposition leaders alleging that certain parties were allowing the unrest to continue for political gains and causing inconvenience to residents.
