Agartala: The district and sessions court of Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district has convicted a woman to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for fatally assaulting her husband with a chopper in Gomati district in 2023, police said.According to a statement issued by Tripura Police, the incident took place around 9am on April 27, 2023, at Kashipada Colony under the jurisdiction of Birganj police station. Kajal Kanya Jamatia allegedly attacked her husband with the chopper inside their home, causing a fatal injury to his throat.Jamatia later surrendered at Birganj police station. Police filed a chargesheet within a month of the incident.The case was initially registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). After examining the evidence and hearing the matter, the court convicted Jamatia under Section 304 Part I of the IPC and sentenced her to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment, the statement said.
