Calangute/Mapusa: An 85-year-old woman, Margaret Rodrigues, was killed after being knocked down by a speeding tourist taxi while crossing the road near Saligao church on Friday evening. The accident occurred between 6 and 6.30am.Rodrigues succumbed to her injuries on Saturday afternoon while undergoing treatment at the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa. Police have registered an offence against one Vasant Shirodkar, 56, a resident of Dias Vaddo, Nagoa, under Section 281 and Section 106(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023.In the second incident, a 75-year-old pedestrian, Prahlad Kumar Raitani, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after being struck by a speeding car at Siolim. The Anjuna police filed a case against the accused driver, Alaa Y M Almadhan, 43, a resident of Morjim.The incident occurred early Friday morning near the SBI Bank at Siolim. Raitani was walking along the left side of the road toward the Siolim bridge when a car hit him from behind. The victim, a native of Kanpur, currently residing at Siolim, sustained severe head injuries.and was rushed to the GMC, BambolimThe police said that a case was filed against Almadhan for rash driving. Following a wireless message on Saturday that confirmed the victim’s death during treatment, a case was also filed under Section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence).
