Nagpur: Traffic moved at a snail’s pace across several parts of the city on Saturday evening as diversions were enforced for the annual Shahi Sandal procession of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin. While commuters faced delays, longer travel times and unfamiliar routes, many acknowledged the arrangements were necessary for an event that draws lakhs of devotees every year. Traffic police personnel, deployed at major junctions since morning, worked to regulate vehicle movement and minimise disruptions. For many motorists, the diversions translated into extended travel times. Ritesh Dhawale, a cab driver from Manewada, said the altered routes had significantly affected his work. “Our commute time has increased considerably and it becomes difficult to accept or complete new rides on time,” he said.Despite challenges, cops remained on duty throughout to ensure smooth movement. A traffic constable said, “We have been on duty since 8.30 am. Most, but some argue and create unnecessary chaos. During such events, we only request citizens to follow the rules peacefully because it makes traffic management much easier.”
