Nagpur: A team from Pachgaon police station in Nagpur Rural district rescued a 3-year-old girl who was kidnapped just an hour ago from Nagpur city limits on Saturday. The cops also managed to arrest the accused.Alerted by villagers, the Pachgaon police arrested 23-year-old Mukesh Madavi, a resident of Mandla district in Madhya Pradesh, at around 8.45 pm on Saturday from Champa village. The accused, who was in an inebriated state, took the girl to the house of a village resident and asked for food. His suspicious behaviour and the presence of the child raised red flags among alert locals, who alerted the cops.Police inspector Ravindra Mankar directed his team to detain and interrogate the man. During questioning, Madavi confessed that he kidnapped the girl from Kharbi Chowk area of Nagpur city.Senior inspector Pramod Pore of the Wathoda police station said that Madavi and the parents of the minor girl are from the same village and know each other well. “Madavi took away the child without informing the parents. We have taken the accused in custody and reunited the girl with family,” Pore said.The Pachgaon police immediately contacted their counterparts at Wathoda police station in Nagpur city limits and verified the details. After receiving confirmation about the kidnapping, the accused and the rescued girl were handed over to the Wathoda police.A case under relevant sections of kidnapping and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against the accused at Wathoda police station.The operation was conducted under Nagpur Rural SP Harssh A Poddar, and Anil Mhaske, additional SP.
