Kanpur: Traders protested against damaged roads in Kanpur’s Kidwai Nagar on Sunday by climbing down into a pothole and demanded that construction begin soon.The protest was led by Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Pratinidhi Mandal state president Gyanesh Mishra and Kidwai Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal president Ashok Shukla.Participants raised slogans against govt and alleged negligence in construction of the CM Grid Road. They said that the roads were dug up and left unfinished.Youth trader leader Vinayak Poddar said it was unfortunate that the area was in such a state despite all its public representatives being from Bharatiya Janata Party. Potholes at several places and defunct street lights make it an accident-prone area, he said.Mishra said the road at Kidwai Nagar Marble Market, one of UP’s biggest marble markets, remained dug up for about 2 years in the name of CM Grid Road construction and was left damaged. The dug-up road affected the business worth more than Rs 100 crore, he said.He warned that traders would unite and launch a major agitation unless roads were constructed and repaired soon.
