Nagpur: The Cyber Cell of city police has registered a case of fraud against two persons who allegedly cheated a city-based trader of Rs 27 lakh in a fake cryptocurrency investment scheme.As per the complainant, Sanjay Jethwa, who runs a battery shop at Dhantoli, he came in contact with one of the accused, Mahavir Sharma, during a train journey. Sharma then introduced him to co-accused Suraj Gupta. The duo promised Jethwa double returns in a cryptocurrency scheme, the complainant stated.Jethwa transferred Rs 27 lakh from his account and through UPI to the accounts linked to the accused in multiple transactions between August 18, 2025, and February 2 this year.The accused allegedly sent a fake contract and demanded an additional 10% tax amounting to Rs 3.90 lakh. It was then that the complainant realised he had been cheated. The accused defrauded him by showing fabricated investment returns, the complainant stated.Police have initiated an investigation to trace the siphoned money.
