Coimbatore: Certificate verification for students selected under the 7.5% reservation for govt school students began on the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) campus here on Monday, with candidates arriving from across the state.A total of 26,709 applications were received for undergraduate agriculture programmes, of which 24,435 were found eligible. Admissions will be filled through online counselling for 2,856 seats in govt colleges and 3,051 govt quota seats in private affiliated colleges.The rank list was released on July 3, following which online counselling began on July 9. Eligible candidates were informed through email. Based on this, certificate verification and admission for students who studied in govt schools from Class VI to Class XII, under the 7.5% quota, was held on the TNAU campus.TNAU said that in some cases, candidates’ EMIS numbers were missing or altered when the rank list was released. Such candidates were asked to attach supporting certificates from the chief educational officer of the concerned district and their school teachers, as per instructions sent via email.University faculty and staff conducted verification throughout the day. Candidates were called under two categories general and vocational education. Under the general category, 424 candidates were emailed calls, including 418 under TNAU and six under Annamalai University. Of them, 110 candidates attended on Monday and confirmed admission, leaving 314 seats unfilled under this quota segment.Under the vocational stream category, 18 of 19 seats at TNAU were filled, with one seat remaining. Students admitted under the government school quota will not have to pay fees.TNAU dean agriculture (in charge) Dr S Karthikeyan said candidates should attend certificate verification on their allotted dates on the Coimbatore campus and submit original documents including Class X and Class XII marksheets, community certificate and transfer certificate. After verification, candidates must pay Rs 20,000 as admission fee to confirm their seat, failing which the allotment will be cancelled and the seat declared vacant.For details, TNAU has provided 9488635077 and 9486425076, and email support at ugadmissions@tnau@ac.in between 9am and 5pm.
