COIMBATORE: Erode district topped the state in the Class XII board examinations with a pass percentage of 98.87%, showing a steady improvement since 2023, while Coimbatore dropped to 13th place from fourth last year and Tirupur to 11th from third place last year.Chief educational officer Dr E Maanvizhi said Erode district’s pass percentage for the 2025-26 academic year increased by 0.89% points compared to the previous year. She said officials identified schools with lower scores, trained teachers and prepared simplified special study materials for students who had scored low marks. These combined efforts helped the district secure the top rank in the State, she said.According to school education department officials, a total of 22,478 students appeared for the examinations in Erode, of whom 22,225 passed. The number of schools recording 100% results also increased from 107 in 2025 to 128 in 2026. Maanvizhi said the district had worked to improve performance in all areas, which was reflected in the overall results.

According to school education department officials, a total of 35,448 students appeared for the examinations, including 16,235 boys and 19,213 girls. Of them, 34,264 students passed, including 15,531 boys and 18,733 girls. Coimbatore recorded a pass percentage of 96.66% this year, compared to 97.48% in 2025. In 2024, the district recorded 96.97%.Coimbatore district chief educational officer R Balamurali said officials had analysed school-wise data and taken steps to improve the pass percentage. However, the district recorded a decline of 0.82% points compared to the previous year. He noted that Coimbatore has 365 schools, the second-highest number after Chennai, and that 158 schools in the district achieved 100% results.As many as 27 inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison had appeared for the Class XII board examinations, and all of them passed. Tirupur district secured 11th place in the state with a pass percentage of 97.03%. Last year, the district had secured third place with a pass percentage of 97.53%. Of the 26,166 students who appeared for the examinations in Tirupur, 25,388 passed. In 2024, Tirupur had secured the top position in the state with a pass percentage of 97.45%.Dharmapuri district secured 30th rank with a pass percentage of 93.49%, marking a decline from the previous year, when it secured 17th rank with 95.25%.Namakkal district stepped up to 10th position with a pass percentage of 97.04%, compared to 15th rank last year. The Nilgiris district stepped up to 26th position with a pass percentage of 94.13%, compared to 29th rank last year when it recorded 93.97%. Krishnagiri district declined to 34th rank with a pass percentage of 91.31%, compared to 21st rank last year when it recorded 94.83%. Salem district stepped up to 14th position with a pass percentage of 96.61%, compared to 26th rank last year when it recorded 94.32%.
