Kolkata: Tensions erupted in south Kolkata on Monday as local Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers locked down the Garfa constituency office of Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh and removed her nameplate, accusing her of political betrayal and operating on behalf of an opposing political outfit.The conflict centred on the party office located in Ward No. 106 of the Garia area. Since winning the Jadavpur seat on a TMC ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Ghosh had utilized the premises as her primary operational hub to conduct public outreach, host leader meetings, and formulate local campaign strategies.On Monday morning, a group of self-identified TMC loyalists and supporters from the Kalighat and Garia regions gathered outside the facility. Protesters carried placards reading “Go Back Sayani” and “No place for traitors,” before forcing the office doors shut and locking the entrance. The crowd also demanded the removal of the MP’s nameplate displayed outside the building.Demonstrators alleged that Ghosh had broken ranks with the party to act as an MP for the National Nationalist Congress (NCPI), which they characterized as a “fly-by-night” political operation. Protesters further expressed outrage over reports of Ghosh attending National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meetings, arguing that her actions directly contradicted the mandate given to her by Trinamool voters.“She contested and won on a Trinamool ticket, using Trinamool resources and office space built by party cadres,” said one demonstrator at the site. “If she is actively engaging with the public on behalf of another party and aligning with the NDA, she has no right to operate out of a Trinamool office.”The locking of the Ward 106 office highlights growing internal friction within the Jadavpur parliamentary constituency following the 2024 elections. Local law enforcement deployed personnel to the Garia location to maintain order and clear the gathering.As of Monday evening, neither Saayoni Ghosh nor the senior funtionaries of the Trinamool Congress had issued an official statement regarding the incident or the allegations raised by the party workers.
