KOLKATA: Trinamool on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the EC over the appointment of WBCS officer Surajit Roy as Bhowanipore returning officer. Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien cited Roy’s long tenure as Nandigram BDO and his out-of-turn appointment as concerns regarding his neutrality.The MP said Roy’s appointment undermines free and fair polls, erodes public trust and constitutes a violation of the model code. Trinamool demanded immediate revocation of Roy’s appointment and his replacement by a neutral officer.CEO Manoj Agarwal said, “He was in Nandigram five years ago. Any govt officer can be placed anywhere; how does that define their work?”
