Nagpur: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Maharashtra forest department have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the Jamtha Cloverleaf Interchange (Leaf No. 01) into a recreational biodiversity zone and aviation park. The project, spread over nearly 10 hectares along NH-44 and estimated at ₹34 crore, aims to boost eco-tourism while strengthening urban biodiversity.Plans include bird-friendly landscaping, eco-sensitive infrastructure, walk-through aviaries, and dedicated enclosures for parrots and tropical species. Habitat development using native vegetation, along with facilities such as a bird hospital, quarantine units, and chick nurseries, will support conservation and care. The site will also feature feed preparation units, temperature-controlled storage, water treatment and recycling systems, and scientific waste management facilities. Visitor amenities—including an information and education centre, cafeteria, souvenir shop, and public utilities—are planned to enhance accessibility and awareness.Security measures such as fencing, surveillance systems, and guard posts will be installed. Officials said the initiative reflects a growing focus on integrating green infrastructure with highway development while promoting sustainable urban growth in Nagpur.
