Dibrugarh: Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) celebrated its second foundation day on Monday with an award ceremony and cultural programme. Tinsukia MLA Sanjoy Kishan attended the event as the chief guest.The MLA presented awards to students who topped in various disciplines. Principal and chief superintendent Dr Rupak Kumar Gogoi, professors, MBBS students and other staff members attended the programme.Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sanjoy Kishan said he was delighted to be part of the celebration. “I felt immense joy to be present as the chief guest at the programme organised on the occasion of the second foundation day of Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital. My heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the teachers, doctors, staff and students on this auspicious occasion,” he said.He praised the award-winning students and expressed confidence in their future. “I hope that these brilliant students of the new generation will provide superior healthcare to society in the future and bring pride to both the state and the nation,” he added.It may be mentioned that PM Narendra Modi had virtually inaugurated the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital on March 9, 2024. The foundation stone of the college was laid in 2019.Located at Makum in Tinsukia district, TMCH is the 13th medical college in Assam. The college functions under the state ministry of health and family welfare and is recognised by the National Medical Commission. It is affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. The college currently admits 100 MBBS students every year.Built at a cost of around Rs 350 crore, the college campus spreads over 58 acres and is equipped with modern educational infrastructure including digital lecture halls, skill laboratories and student hostels. The institution has been set up to meet the growing healthcare and medical education needs of upper Assam and surrounding areas.Principal Dr Rupak Kumar Gogoi, addressing the gathering, said the institution was committed to producing doctors who would serve the people with skill and compassion. He expressed confidence that TMCH would grow into a major centre of medical education in the region in the years ahead.
