Madikeri: Hundreds of Tibetans, including Buddhist monks, held a protest march at Bylakuppe Tibetan camp near Kushalnagar, demanding that China immediately leave Tibet and grant independence to their country.The Tibetan community in Karnataka gathered at Bylakuppe, the biggest Tibetan camp in India, to protest the demise of Lobga Rangzen, a Tibetan activist who self-immolated outside the United Nations Headquarters in New York in July.Leaders of the Bylakuppe Tibetan Youth Congress appealed to the international community to raise its voice and support the struggle in the name of unity, justice, awareness and freedom.Protesters alleged that the Chinese communist govt is destroying Tibet’s culture and language. They claimed that children were being abused under an anti-Tibet policy and that Chinese authorities were pressuring Tibetan children to learn Chinese instead of Tibetan languages.They also alleged that many Tibetan youth had committed suicide in Tibet to protest Chinese atrocities and that many had been arrested. They further claimed that China’s govt has destroyed Buddhist monasteries, taken thousands of monks into custody and is formulating laws against Tibetans.Wrapping the Tibetan flag around their bodies, the protesters marched to the main road, chanting slogans against China.
