JAIPUR: District collector Sandesh Nayak Friday convened a meeting of the district road safety committee in which he outlined that a public awareness campaign regarding road safety will be conducted over a period of three months starting from April.During this campaign, tasks including the repair of city roads, rectification of sewage manholes, installation of signage, proper repainting of zebra crossings, repair of road dividers, maintenance of traffic lights, repainting of the white lane markings in the centre of the road, and the provision of facilities to assist pedestrians in safely crossing the road will be undertaken.Officials said that in accordance with the law, action will be initiated against drivers of overloaded vehicles, as well as those found violating traffic signals, failing to wear seat belts or helmets, driving under the influence of alcohol, or using mobile phones while driving.The district collector further said that under this campaign, information regarding traffic rules will be provided free of cost to students in schools.“Students will be sensitised and made aware through comprehensive instruction covering the rules of traffic lights, the proper way and time to cross roads, and how to prevent road accidents,” said Nayak.In the meeting, the district collector said that out of the 88 identified black spots in Jaipur, permanent remedial work is currently in progress at 34 locations, while corrective measures have already been completed at 53 others.
