Chikkamagaluru: Chikkamagaluru district police took three people into custody and filed an FIR against eight people for threatening a 17-year-old boy and his female friend while riding on a bike.The boy and the girl were intercepted at Jyoti Circle on Market Road late on Thursday evening in Chikkamagaluru. The accused threatened the boy for taking the girl on his bike. Subsequently, a group allegedly broke into his house and abused him.
Sources said the boy, belonging to a Scheduled Caste from the Tamil Colony, was stopped by a group of Muslim youths while he was with his Muslim friend, who is also a minor, on a bike, resulting in a confrontation in the Malnad town.The boy’s family claimed that they were childhood friends and grew up together.The boy’s uncle, Suman, who filed the complaint, said that after the altercation was defused and they returned to their home in Tamil Colony, the group of Muslim youths broke in and attacked them late at night. The youths allegedly taunted them for seeking friendship with a Muslim girl and issued death threats.Superintendent of police Jitendra Kumar Dayama said on Friday that the cops acted swiftly and arrested three accused in the case. Kumar said the minor boy was not physically assaulted but was intimidated by the group. An FIR was filed against eight individuals, and a probe is on, he added.
