Ahmedabad: The city crime branch arrested three men carrying sharp weapons during patrolling on the rath yatra route as part of heightened security arrangements ahead of the 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra.Police said the trio — Jitendra Rawat, a 35-year-old resident of Behrampura; Paresh Raval a 42-year-old resident of Odhav; and Nadeem Shaikh a 21-year-old resident of Vejalpur — allegedly behaved in a manner that caused fear and inconvenience to the public. The crime branch intercepted them and recovered sharp weapons from their possession before taking them into custody.Crime branch officials said preventive action was taken to maintain law and order along the route. The accused have been booked under provisions of the Gujarat Police Act for possessing weapons and creating public nuisance.Police records show that Rawat has two previous cases registered against him under the Gujarat Police Act at Gaekwad Haveli police station, while Raval was named in a similar offence at Karanj police station.
