Coimbatore: Three ganja plants, each about five feet tall, were found near a guest workers’ shelter in Vadavalli, in the city on Monday.Vadavalli police received a tip-off that ganja plants were being grown near Onampalayam in Vadavalli. Acting on the information, a police team inspected the spot and found three plants. They immediately seized the plants and initiated an investigation. Police sources said around 40 guest workers from West Bengal live in makeshift shelters in the area and work as construction workers in the city. The ganja plants were found on a non-patta land near their shelters.Police are in the process of questioning the guest workers, their contractor, and the landowner as part of the investigation. Officials said no arrests have been made so far, and efforts are on to ascertain if the ganja plants were cultivated intentionally. Officials said appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
