Kanpur: Thieves targeted an engineer’s house in Taadbagiya of Jajmau area while he and his family had gone to Lucknow on Sunday afternoon and fled with cash and jewellery worth around Rs 16 lakh. The theft came to light when they returned home at night.Aman Khan, a tax data engineer at HCL posted in Nagpur, told police that he went to Lucknow on Sunday afternoon with his elder brother Khushhal Khan and mother Sufiya Khan to shop for his wedding. On returning they found items in the rooms scattered and the cupboard lying open.The thieves fled with 2 gold sets, 4 gold bangles, 6 gold rings and cash worth Rs 40,000, said Aman. The total value of the stolen items was about Rs 16 lakh, he added.During investigation, the police found the mesh installed at the roof removed. It was suspected that the thieves entered the house through the roof.Station in charge Sanjay Pandey said the thieves were being searched for on the basis of evidence found at the spot, including CCTV footage from the area.
